Blackmagic Hardware Types

There are a number of ways to route an SDI or HDMI signal out of and back into your machine, depending on your particular Blackmagic hardware. You will need to send an SDI / HDMI signal out of your Blackmagic hardware and back into either the same or different Blackmagic hardware, essentially creating a signal loop.

In+Out Devices: Blackmagic hardware that has both SDI / HDMI inputs and outputs​

With these devices, you can send an SDI / HDMI signal out of the device and back into the same device (creating a loop), which can then be added to LDE. If the number of I/O ports is limited, you can send a signal out of the hardware device and into a broadcast monitor, and then from the broadcast monitor (eg. SDI loop) back into the hardware device. You can also use an HDMI Splitter instead of a broadcast monitor loop.

Out-Only Devices: Blackmagic hardware that has SDI / HDMI outputs only​

With these devices, you would need to additionally use a device from either Category 1 or Category 3 to get the SDI / HDMI signal into the machine that LDE is running on (this can either be the same machine that the Category 2 device is attached to, or a different machine).

In-Only Devices: Blackmagic hardware that has SDI / HDMI inputs only​

    * These models do have SDI / HDMI outputs, but they are not used for monitoring signals from NLEs.

With these devices, you would need to additionally use a device from either Category 1 or Category 2 to send an SDI / HDMI signal out of your machine and then get the SDI / HDMI signal into the machine that LDE is running on (this can either be the same machine that the Category 1 or 2 device is attached to, or a different machine).
