Pro Tools HDMI / SDI signal with Blackmagic Hardware - Setup Guide

In this guide, we’ll show you how to stream audio and video from Pro Tools to your Louper room, using Blackmagic Hardware and our desktop encoder, LDE.

LDE includes native support for Blackmagic devices. This means that you can send an SDI or HDMI video signal out of your Blackmagic hardware and loop it back into the same device (creating a loop) and then stream that signal to your Louper room. You can also use your Blackmagic hardware as an input-only device, to pick up an analogue audio feed from your Audio interface. LDE will then stream these two signals together to your Louper room.

This setup guide is for you if:

  • You’re using a Blackmagic device to monitor an SDI or HDMI signal
  • Your Blackmagic hardware is able to capture an audio source (most likely an output sent from your existing Audio interface hardware to the analogue inputs on your Blackmagic device) as well as a video source (most likely by looping an HDMI or SDI output back into the input).

Requirements

  • A Louper account (sign up here)
  • Mac or Windows system with 8-core CPU and 16GB memory (32GB memory recommended)
  • Internet connection with upload and download speeds of at least 10mbps - ethernet recommended
  • Pro Tools (2022.9 or later recommended)
  • Blackmagic hardware that has at least two HDMI or SDI input and output ports (to enable a signal loop) and at least two 1/4in audio inputs
  • Audio hardware that can output a signal to your Blackmagic device
note

If you are not using an external monitor, you can stream a window capture of your Pro Tools video output. We will cover this option in the guide.
