Device Permissions
If access to your webcam or microphone is blocked when joining a Louper room, you will need to unblock webcam and microphone access in your browser's settings and rejoin your room so that other participants can see and hear you.
- Chrome
- Safari
- Firefox
- Edge
First, refresh the Louper room page. If you are prompted for camera and microphone access in Chrome after refreshing, click Allow
. If you are not prompted for device access, follow these steps:
- Click the controls icon to the left of "app.louper.io" in the URL bar of Chrome
- Turn on the camera and microphone toggles
- Click the Reload button at the top of the page
- If prompted to allow access to your camera and microphone, click
Allow
- You should now see your camera and microphone devices listed in the Device Selection modal, with a preview window of your camera
Turn on device permissions in macOS System Preferences
If you use macOS and your camera or microphone isn't on in your system preferences, Chrome may ask permission to use your camera or microphone. To use your camera or microphone in Chrome:
- Open System Preferences.
- Click
Security & Privacy
. - To enable camera or mic permissions:
Camera: Click Camera in the left column and then Select the tick box next to 'Google Chrome' in the right column.
Microphone: Click Microphone in the left column and then Select the tick box next to 'Google Chrome' in the right column. - Your computer may ask if you want to quit to save changes. To save changes, click
Quit and reopen
.
First, refresh the Louper room page. If you are prompted for camera and microphone access in Safari after refreshing, click Allow
. If you are not prompted for device access, follow these steps:
- Click
Safari
>Preferences
. - Click
Websites
. - Click
Camera
in the column on the left. - On the right, you should see
app.louper.io
with the settingDeny
next to it. - Click the dropdown menu that says
Deny
and change the setting toAllow
. - Make the same adjustments as above to the
Microphone
setting in the column on the left. - Refresh the Louper room page. You should no longer be promtped for device access, but if you are, click
Allow
in the Safari permissions dialog.
Turn on device permissions in macOS System Preferences
If you use macOS and your camera or microphone isn't on in your system preferences, Safari may ask permission to use your camera or microphone. To use your camera or microphone in Safari:
- Open System Preferences.
- Click
Security & Privacy
. - To enable camera or mic permissions:
Camera: Click Camera in the left column and then Select the tick box next to 'Safari' in the right column.
Microphone: Click Microphone in the left column and then Select the tick box next to 'Safari' in the right column. - Your computer may ask if you want to quit to save changes. To save changes, click
Quit and reopen
.

next toBlocked
orBlocked Temporarily
. - Refresh the room page.
- When prompted for device permissions, for example 'Allow app.louper.io to use your microphone?' and 'Allow app.louper.io to use your camera?', click
Allow
. - Click
Go!
to enter the room.

(Lock) icon on the left side of the address bar, next tohttps://app.louper.io
. - Click the dropdown next to Camera and change the setting from
Block
toAllow
- Click the dropdown next to Microphone and change the setting from
Block
toAllow
- Refresh the Louper room page. You should no longer be promtped for device access, but if you are, click
Allow
in the Edge permissions dialog. - Click
Go!
to enter the room.
